Notary Public

The Cincinnati Bar Association serves as the administrator for all notaries public in Hamilton County, Ohio. A notary is a public officer of the state of Ohio, a position created by the state Legislature. As stated in Section 147.07 of the Ohio Revised Code, "a notary public may, throughout the state, administer oaths required or authorized by law; take and certify depositions; take and certify acknowledgment of deeds, mortgages, liens, powers of attorney and other instruments of writing; and receive, make and record notarial protests."

In order for a person to qualify to be appointed and commissioned a notary public in the state of Ohio, the person must be at least 18 years of age, a resident of the state of Ohio, of good moral character, pass a written examination and able to verify his or her identity.
